Cae Felin Project Manager – Job Description 

JOB DESCRIPTION

This job description indicates the general level of responsibility and standards expected of the post. The detailed duties may vary or develop over time according to needs without changing the nature of level of responsibility of the post.

 POST: Project Manager

SALARY: £24,375 pro-rata based on 37.5 hr week

HOURS: 32 hrs per week

Flexibility required due to nature of work.

TERM: This is a fixed term contract until 28 February 2023. This contract could be extended based on funding and performance at the end of the term.

START DATE: Applications close 02/08/22 or when sufficient applications have been received. Interviews will take place either online or in person week commencing 08/08/22. The role will start as soon as possible, once a candidate has been selected.

LOCATION:    Based at the Cae Felin field.

REPORTS TO: Board of Directors

BACKGROUND: Cae Felin is a newly incorporated organisation commencing its first project activity in August 2022. We have been fortunate to secure a 10 year lease on land owned by SBUHB (Swansea Bay University Health Board) and will be working in partnership with them to develop the site and delivering volunteering and social prescribing opportunities.

Involving the community is a key aspect to this work and we will run twice weekly volunteer days and educational workshops with local schools, youth and community groups.

As this is will be our first year of operation it is an exciting time for an enthusiastic person with skills in working outdoors with volunteers and groups to develop biodiversity at the site.

This post is part-funded through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the Welsh Government and the European Union.

KEY RESPONCIBILITIES:

It will be the responsibility of the Project Manager to ensure efficient working practices and systems are developed from the start of this project.

As Project Manager you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of the site as well as developing and delivering the overall project.

You will be responsible for monitoring the delivery of the project to ensure project targets are met, (both financial and social) produce progress reports to enable clear communication with both funders and directors.

You will directly line manage the Volunteer Co-ordinator and work with volunteers on site.

Day to day tasks will include:

– leading all staff and volunteers in delivering biodiversity management plan, education projects with schools and social prescribing services for local GPs and area co-ordinators.

– ensuring volunteers and all beneficiaries have a clear understanding of the task required and correct equipment and training is given.

On-going tasks will include:

– Applying for funding and reporting back to funders. Ensuring the project is managed within the frame work set out under our funding guidelines.

– Working alongside staff and board of directors to ensure over-all delivery of funded projects are on track, to develop new strategies where necessary.

– maintain good relationships with landowners, neighbours and local people including replying to emails, putting out information on social media and hosting events at the field.

 

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE

  • Sound knowledge and practical experience of growing chemical free fruit and vegetables.
  • At least two years’ experience working with volunteers of different abilities and ages.
  • At least two years’ experience running a project of similar scale and character
  • Staff management
  • A horticultural qualification or equivalent experience
  • Communicate well with the team
  • Willing to work flexible hours depending on seasonal requirements
  • Able to maintain a healthy and safe working environment, including first aid, safe use of tools and machinery on the site, adhering to the Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding policy requirements
  • Driving license necessary
  • Applicants must be organised and be able to focus on multiple aspects of the role at one time. Prioritising workload effectively will be key.

As a lead member of the team and Volunteer Co-ordinator you will be responsible for leading a group of volunteers in all aspects of activities at the site. Working together with our volunteers you will ensure the key aim of raising levels of biodiversity at the site are met.

You will be responsible for the recruitment, induction and training of all volunteers. Ensuring that tasks for volunteers are appropriately assigned with clear guidance, enabling volunteers to take on the tasks with confidence. Good inter-personal skills will be essential for this role as well as sound knowledge of the day to day tasks involved in growing food.

Experience of working outdoors with volunteers of all abilities is essential and you will need to be a dynamic self-motivated individual looking for a position of responsibility.

You will be working alongside the Project Manager on day to day tasks involving:

  • Help with setting up a ‘Task List’ for volunteer work days – currently two days a week
  • Maintaining Health and Safety standards and requirements.
  • Provide supportive & welcoming environment for the rest of the team, volunteers & visitors
  • Provide ongoing support and training for volunteers
  • Ensure volunteer hours and tasks set are recorded
  • Maintain ongoing dialogue and feedback from volunteers and members

During all aspect of the work it is essential that clear communication and relevant jobs are assigned to our volunteers. Staff members must be confident in delivering training on each task.
